Good Bye to Dayang Nuruljannah!

Due to distance and her thirst for designs, Dayang Nuruljannah left BDC on the last day of 2009. Parting is not sweet sorrow as she promised to be back - for her long time pal, Saodah is still with us.

Both joined BDC on the Capacity Building For Graduates Programs. Appearing on our door step one fine Monday morning, without any fair warnings, we were taken by surprise. Quick to understand and eager to learn, these two would be valuable assets to any employer. Unfortunately, BDC is currently just a real estate developer. Their skills were mismatched.
Our warmest wishes to Dayang for her future undertakings.

The ceremony was telecast live on RTM. The new DUN stood tall across the Astana, overseeing the Sarawak River and the Kuching Waterfront on the other bank. The nine storey buildings is pretty impressive on top of Fort Hill. Here shall be the next venue for the DUN's sittings.

Goodbye is Sweet Sorrow

You clocked in to work in the morning. Clocked out at 5p.m. Then one day you decided that you have mastered enough clocking businesses and you are going to be your own boss. Walla... welcome to the world of freedom from the terms and conditions.

Some fears retirement and others are so happy to go. And Reduan was one of the few who decided to retire after thirty years of BDC. He left with tons of memories after serving five CEO, four company secretaries and the numerous pet peeves of members of the Board. To see another colleague retires is to be reminded that tomorrow will come for the rest of us too.

Reduan (left) with a farewell smile for the camera.

one to be remembered

Wishing Reduan all the best for his future undertakings.

The hungry wolves and the little halal rabbit

It was such a nice day, after two days of non-stopped heavy rainfalls. The clouds were white after those gloomy days. The sun was shinning and we actually were rolling down sweats.

The grass looked greener.

The roads were almost empty.

Then they started coming.

One after the other.

Until the road was lined with cars, mostly big fat cars.

The flock started to gather. Almost restless. Old and restless.

Until the awaited man of the day came.

Getting the crowd excited.

To the point of pin-pointing in the air!

The men-0f-the-day: The Architect looked worried; The M&E Engineer tried to keep his composture.

And the QS was already calculating profits out of sale of his latest script.

The book shall have colour pictures like this....remember green is the colour. Good feng shui in the Year of the Buffalo. Round is good. Perfect squares. But the unshapely corners is a No-No.

Now you know how hungry we are at this point of time, scrapping... even willing to fly all over the South China Sea to get to join the party. The sad part is of cause, the cake is for someone else but look who came to feast at the party and blowing candles before the music started.

KPI amongst BBB & GLCs in Sarawak

Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are used as a basis for performance evaluation. It is created not only for customer satisfaction but as a gearing for companies to achieve their goals and targets.

The meeting amongst Sarawak's Statutory Bodies and GLCs, held on 29th January 2009, was hosted by the new Acting CEO of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak and chaired by Puan Noriah Binti Haji Ahmad, hopeful a satisfied customer, from the Human Resource Planning Unit. The main objective was to survey on the usage of KPI - i.e. to check on whether the various organizations had established KPI as instructed by the Government Circular dated way back in 2007.

Puan Korina (second left), member of the Secretariat is laughing at something.

Representative from STIDC (Pusaka) on her blackberry - organisation with the most lengthy report, oursourcing. Seating beside her is the representative from Bintulu Development Authority - someone we will be chasing after in the near future.

Lady from Sacofa - dependent on blackberry.

Masella (sounds like) from Salcra - happy to announce that they are starting their KPI in 2009!

Second right, Japri Bujang Masli, the Acting CEO of Pustaka, the host for the meeting.

NOW TWO QUESTIONS (to fellow colleagues):

What is BDC's KPIs?

Are your KPIs SMART?

Full Moon as seen from the Land of the Hornbills

Couldn't get a better shot as the moon stayed behind the thick clouds most of the time. And when it was in view, it started to rain again and again.

The good news is our projects are all basically above the flood line.
